This is the time of year when we stop and take time to be outwardly thankful by sharing a meal together, opening our homes, and remembering what’s most important – it’s absolutely beautiful. Often times we’re so busy preparing for the meal and guests, that at least for me, taking time to decorate takes a backseat.

I have been so excited to show you my tablescape! It’s the perfect time to consider adding one or a few elements to personalize your table, and with a little planning and inspiration, you can create a few special touches before your kitchen becomes a whirlwind of thanksgiving goodness.

I hope this Thanksgiving tablescape and centerpiece idea inspires you to add a little something to your Thanksgiving table. Here are some simple projects to help enjoy and celebrate Thanksgiving.

I love plate chargers! And that’s the problem because I love all of them and I can’t buy all of them – so I haven’t purchased a single plate charger for over twelve years. I’ve used IKEA place mats or tablecloths, but plate chargers are expensive and how does a girl just pick one style?

These faux plate chargers are not what you’d expect. I wanted to try something different, disposable, and easy, so I used a sheet of white tissue paper, gave the center a little twist, and then set down a dinner plate on top. I think my tissue paper chargers look pretty cute and unique. I would have preferred kraft brown tissue, but I used what I had instead.

I’m not usually a fan of fabric napkins, but I am a fan of teaching my kids table manners and etiquette. So, in the spirit of preparing them for a nice restaurant someday, with fabric napkins, I busted out these Hearth and Hand cotton napkins. I kept with my schoolhouse dining room decor and used library book pockets and cards to make place settings. Each card has the dinner guest’s name and a list of their attributes that I’m so thankful for.

DIY mini mason jar tealight holders

Another type of place setting I created was with these mason jar inspired tealight holders. I love the look of painted mason jars, so I used clear drying glass glue and traced each dinner guest’s name on the glass jar. (I recycled Yoplait Oui yogurt jars.) Once the glue was completely dry I just spray painted the outside and added a tealight candle. I love the ambiance of candlelight and these little personalized jars are just a new spin on that.

Thanksgiving centerpiece idea

This vintage urn/vase was found at an amazing vintage show. I found it when I scored my cubby piece. I was sort of wracking my brain with my Thanksgiving centerpiece idea because I knew I wanted to upcycle my Halloween tree branch, but I wasn’t sure how to stabilize the branch inside the vintage brass vase. Instead of filling the vase with something, like rocks, I realized I could tape the branch to a can of pumpkin and it would hold it in place perfectly. To hide the can I just set one of my coffee filter flowers on top! It turned out so pretty.

Since I stripped the tree branch of its dead leaves, I decided to use this leaf paper punch and glue on new leaves. The book page leaves keep with my book page and neutral color theme found all around the house.

I realized that I didn’t have any taper candle holders and as much as I would have preferred a collection of vintage brass ones to make a huge statement, I didn’t have time or money to work on this collection (there’s always next year!). So I found these affordable and darling modern vintage taper holders on Amazon – I really do love them and they work with my style and decor. The taper candles are dripless and scentless – they’re a perfect fit.
