Every time I refresh or redecorate someone’s home it reminds me just how important it is to enjoy the place you call home. Our homes are often reflections of what we like, what makes us feel comfortable and relaxed, and it’s a place that tells our story. Furniture, decor, art, and everything in between can be connected to a memory or feeling. I love it when clients have keepsakes that they want to stay integrated with new decor, or when they have an older piece of furniture maybe even passed down through generations, or when they just love a piece so much, they don’t care if it works or not because they like it. I recently completed a home refresh and I love how it turned out. I’m so excited to share with you how to refresh your entire home using color.

My client had spent a lot of time updating the furniture throughout the home and really just wanted some refreshed decor to reflect her style and preferences now. The home is very beautiful, so it didn’t take much to pull things together. I mainly used color to help the rooms flow and feel complete. There was a piece of artwork that I used as my guide to coordinate colors through the home. It’s not about matching colors or pieces but coordinating everything so that the home feels natural and lived in and with your preferred style. The new decor pieces also brought in texture, style, and a specific feel. I usually like to use a lot of neutral decor pieces so that the client can easily change out colorful statement decor when their style or color scheme changes, but it’s equally important to use colorful accessories to create the look and feel you want conveyed in your home.

I’m going to share some before and after photos of this home and share some of my ideas and how each space came together. My time consulting with a client is so important to find out what style, feeling, colors, and changes they prefer. I was able to note the sentimental decor that would stay on display and get a feel for how each space is used. Knowing a little bit about the client and how they use the rooms or want to use the rooms helps me to select decor that will help achieve their goals. First up is the entryway. My client already had a beautiful modern rustic table and mirror, and she just wanted a lamp and rug to help the space feel complete. I love it when the tone of an entryway conveys what the rest of the home is going to feel like. This entryway is uncluttered, inviting, has a bit of nature, some texture, and isn’t fussy at all.
