The best of Thanksgiving 2019

This is the time of the year that can be a little tricky when decorating my home. Most of the fall decor has morphed into Halloween or the pumpkins aren’t looking their best anymore. And once Halloween is over, we have about three and a half weeks until Thanksgiving, so the window of decorating time is small. I’ve made a few changes around the house to create Thanksgiving inspiration 2019.

In the past, I have rarely decorated specifically for Thanksgiving. I’m usually busy planning and preparing my Christmas decor ideas. Besides, good food takes the stage at Thanksgiving – is anyone really going to care about the table setting or home decor?

Well, I think some do. While some people may not notice, I know there are those that appreciate the efforts of a nice place setting. I love creating a pretty tablescape and I love surprising people with personal touches to help them feel truly welcome and invited into my haven.

Simple Thanksgiving family room decor

Since you’ve already seen my Thanksgiving mantel DIY decor, it’s time to show you the rest of the family room. I just removed any bright colors and redecorated using what I already have while adding coziness and texture. My Thanksgiving family room decor is very neutral compared to my fall and Halloween decor. Don’t worry, I’m busting out the color for Christmas!

Thanksgiving media cabinet

I don’t normally have so much decor out on the media cabinet, but I wanted to create a little setting for our five year old daughter to interact with. There’s nothing too fragile or sentimental and it encourages her to decorate and use her imagination.

Thanksgiving throw pillows

Our couches are a simple light grey (from Dania) and I think the neutral beige and cream pillows look great with it. I like how simple the pillows are, they’re down-filled so they re-fluff really well, and these pillows have seen many years of use. I like having different fabrics and textures on my throw pillows with just a hint of color to add interest.

Kitchen pass through decor

We designed our kitchen pass-through to open up our galley kitchen and to feel connected to what’s going on in the family room. The girls will sometimes eat at the pass-through so they can watch TV, and sometimes we use it to serve or prepare food. It’s a highly functional counter space so I like to keep the kitchen pass through decor simple and easy to move if we need to. This basket from Target is simply lovely and adds nice texture (love this one too). It may hold these coffee filter flowers, fruit, or even mail – it’s a basket of many uses.

Built-in desk floating shelves

This view of the family room is rarely shown because my desk usually has a lot of in-progress things going on. It’s not really a cute work space, but the floating shelves are a fun space to decorate for the seasons. I usually prefer larger items on bottom shelves, but the bottom shelf is accessed almost daily for function, so these shelves are set up almost in reverse to how I usually style shelving. I moved brightly colored pieces and kept things natural and neutral to flow with the rest of the room.

Thanksgiving time is such a special time of year. While I love decorating and getting into the season, this month is a reflective time for me and it’s also when my heart is getting ready for Christmas. That might sound weird, but I’m a planner so preparing for the hustle of Christmas is easy while preparing for Christmas needs to be intentional for me. So, the month of November is a good time for me to focus on and remember the importance of the Christmas season, Jesus.
