Lavender essential oil

Lavender essential oil is my third favorite oil from my personal collection! I use it for aromatherapy, sleeping, and refreshing linens. Lavender is also nice blended with other oils for diffusing – it’s one of the few floral scents that don’t give me a headache. I have grown to enjoy lavender so much so that we planted several of the beautiful purple flowering plants out front. The plants smell wonderful and I don’t mind the bees. I love that it propagates and returns every year. Lavender has turned out to be one of my favorites and it has several practical uses. Check out these common uses and recipes.

Place a few drops of Lavender oil on a tissue, tuck it inside your pillowcase, and let this floral friend ease your occasional nervous tension.

Lemon essential oil

Lemon essential oil is cold-pressed from the rinds of lemons, making it one of my favorite oils to diffuse and digest. The scent is cheerful, sweet, and fresh, lemon oil can eliminate odors and infuse your whole home with its clean citrus scent. Here are some ways to use one of my favorite essential oils; Lemon:

  • Add 1-2 drops Lemon oil to a glass of water to help you detox. It helps alkalize the water with no calories with a refreshing taste. Use only a glass or stainless steel cup and straw as Lemon Oil will dissolve plastic and styrofoam containers.
  • Use as a furniture polish by adding 1 teaspoon of Lemon Oil to 1 cup of mineral oil.
  • Disinfect your produce cutting boards and other surfaces by rubbing them with a few drops of Lemon Oil.
  • Diffusing Lemon essential oil will freshen the air in your home or office.
  • For healthier, brighter skin, mix a drop of Lemon oil into your cleanser or moisturizer (not for sensitive skin).
  • Put 4-8 drops of Lemon Oil  onto a cotton ball and place in your vacuum cleaner bag to scent the air while vacuuming. Refreshes the carpet as well.
  • Use in cooking instead of lemon juice for vegetables, seafood, beverages and desserts. 8 drops of Lemon Essential Oil equals the zest of 1 lemon.
  • Keep your produce fresher longer by using a few drops of Lemon Oil in a bowl of cold water and soaking for a few minutes.
  • Lemon Oil can be used to remove gum, grease, oil, stickers and crayons from many surfaces (test first).
  • According Jean Valnet, M.D., the vaporized [diffused] essence of Lemon Oil can kill meningococcus bacteria in 15 minutes, typhoid bacilli in one hour, Staphylococcus aureus in two hours, and Pneumococcus bacteria within three hours. Even a 0.2% solution of Lemon oil can kill diphtheria bacteria in 20 minutes and inactivate tuberculosis bacteria (at the very least, it doesn’t hurt anything and it smells amazing).
  • Lemon oil is effective as an insect repellent (add to a carrier oil).
  • Adding a drop to your dishwasher before the wash cycle will give you spot free dishes.

Thieves essential oil

This is the perfect time of year to share with you my favorite essential oils. There are so many amazing oils out there, with delicious scents and amazing benefits, but when it comes down to it, there are handful of oils that I use the most.

I’m going to start with my absolute favorite because it is cold and flu season so I want put it out there. I use it almost daily, year-round, and I love it. Young Living is the brand, and Thieves is the blend of oils that make up an essential oil that apparently, I can’t seem to live without.

I’ve tried other brands, other blends, tried blending it myself – but I have come to realize nothing tops the real Thieves. The blend is composed of cinnamon, cloves, rosemary, lemon, and eucalyptus. It’s a spicy scent, reminiscent of the holidays, and smells wonderful, but the best thing about the blend is its immune defense properties. Thieves has anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, and anti-viral properties – that is a magical combination for this germophobe.

Like I said, I use Thieves almost daily, so here are some ways that I use it regularly.

  • DIY foaming hand soap
  • Diffuse
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Immunity support / perfume
  • Fresh laundry
  • Household cleaner

Here are the recipes I use with my Thieves oil:

Foaming hand soap
15 oz. foaming soap dispenser
3 Tablespoons Dr. Bronner’s Unscented Castile Soap
1 Tablespoon carrier oil (sweet almond oil, fractionated coconut oil, jojoba, olive, Argan)
5 drops Thieves essential oil
Fill bottle with tap water (leave space for the pump)
Diffuse
Add water to diffuser (follow diffuser instructions)
Add 10-15 drops of Thieves essential oil
Hand sanitizer
Travel size unscented sanitizer
Add 5 drops of Thieves essential oil (more or less to find your preference)
Immunity support
Glass roller bottle
Add 10 drops Thieves essential oil
Fill the remainder of the bottle with fractioned coconut oil
Fresh laundry
Wool Dryer Balls
2-3 drops of Thieves essential oil
Household cleaner
14.4 fl oz bottle of Thieves household cleaner
Follow instructions on bottle
Young Living also sells a Thieves Home Cleaning Kit. This item is often out-of-stock due to popularity. The kit includes five essential oils, the Thieves concentrate cleaner, spray bottle, bucket, oil case, cleaning cloth, and a cleaning recipe booklet! The Thieves concentrate cleaner lasts forever, kids can make it, and it leaves a chemical-free residue on your counters and hard surfaces.

This particular essential oil has changed the way I clean my home, dry my laundry, and freshen the air – I love how easily I can add a safe immunity booster to my household that smells amazing. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks so much for letting me share!
