For our first Christmas in Northwest Arkansas, we’re living in our temporary apartment with all our Christmas decor in storage. As much fun as it would be to buy new decor and ornaments, I decided to get creative and let nature inspire some handmade ornaments. Last year, our home was decorated in a merry and bright theme, meaning all the bright colors, glitter, and embellishments you can imagine. This year, I was drawn toward the complete opposite style with nature themed items and lots of neutrals and natural colors. I’m pretty certain I’ve never not had Christmas red in the mix, but this year is an exception. Each year is different and I enjoy trying new things (decor-wise) so let’s go over our simple nature inspired handmade Christmas tree ornaments!

  • Dried orange slices (thinly slice an orange, lay slices on a rack, bake at 200 for around two hours – flipping the slices after the first hour)
  • Pinecones (lightly brush craft paint on the outer edges, and tie to tree branches with ribbon)
  • Feathers (I used these white feathers leftover from Quinn’s Halloween costume and glued them to clothes pins)
  • Twigs (gather twigs, let dry, and spray paint any color)

The girls love they way the tree turned out even though they miss their Christmas ornaments. Quinn loved hanging the orange slices – she thought it was so cool to have fruit on our tree! I found some more awesome handmade ornaments to add to your Christmas tree decorating inspiration. Be sure to also visit these blogs and check out all the great stuff they have to offer:

Thank you so much for checking out my nature inspired Christmas tree ornaments and the other gorgeous handcrafted ornaments! It is so satisfying to use what I already have and create something new. I love showing my daughters that they can be creative, use their imaginations, and do whatever they set their minds to – even if it is just for tree decor. My hope is that you not only enjoy the holiday season, but you enjoy the little things along the way, like decorating the tree, making a wreath, or making gift tags.
