Holiday Home Tour to Inspire Your Christmas Decor

If you’re like me, you love getting out the Christmas bins filled with your collected decorations. These decorations bring back wonderful memories for our family, and everyone loves seeing them after a year of being forgotten. This year, I used all of my existing decor, but I placed things in different areas to create new looks. The only items purchased for this year’s holiday decor is some new ribbon and shatter-proof bulbs. That’s it! And with the new ribbon, I was able to wrap gifts, create a new color scheme I’ve never used, and give new life to my existing decor. I’m so glad you’re here to check out my holiday home tour to inspire your Christmas decorating. I hope you enjoy some of my ideas and that you feel inspired to create a new look with your existing Christmas decorations too.

The best thing about having beautiful faux garlands and greenery is that they hold their beauty year after year. I store my wreath in a wreath container, and I keep all my garlands and stems together in one bin too. I’m careful to not let them get bent or smashed so that they hold their natural shape. I have also kept the original boxes for our classic Christmas village buildings which has given us many years of enjoying their charm. However, this year, my eight-year-old couldn’t wait to see the buildings and also couldn’t figure out how to get the foam pulled out of the box… So, I walked in to find shredded foam and tears because she knew her method wasn’t a good one. I’m not certain exactly how I’ll pack up those buildings this time around. We also decided that our faux Christmas tree box was on its last leg after being moved several times, including once across country, and being opened and resealed for many years, so we’re going to recycle the box and use a storage bag like this one. There are so many great reasons to reuse your Christmas decor, year after year, and it’s easy to get new looks out of it.

You can see our holiday home decor from last year for more inspiration and ideas. One of the biggest changes I made this year was dividing our ornaments into two groups. We have a lot of bird ornaments, so I grouped the bird stuff into two categories, neutral or colorful. There were more neutral ornaments, so they filled up the main tree, and the colorful ornaments covered the small tree that we got when we lived in an apartment during our home build. Our daughters both have a small faux tree in their rooms covered with their personal ornaments. We have a tradition of buying them one ornament a year, their choice. The bedroom trees are fun for them, and they add that lovely holiday light all throughout the house. Recycling and repurposing are one of my favorite challenges to tackle when decorating any time of the year. But, with more money being spent around the holidays it makes spending even more on decor a bit difficult and is often unnecessary. I love new decor as much as the next person, but when you buy quality pieces that are timeless, getting more stuff doesn’t necessarily make it better.

Amazon is a wonderful resource for sourcing some quality holiday decor that will last. You can check out my Amazon store front to see some of my favorite pieces. Curating Christmas decor just feels better to me. I don’t want to snap my fingers and have everything I can imagine – I enjoy adding quality pieces each year with the intention of keeping them and using them year after year. It sure is fun though to see all the different styles that my favorite stores come up with, but I have more fun spray-painting old decor to reinvent it, or just display things in a different spot, or how I just added some ribbon this year. However, you choose to decorate this year, it’s my hope that your home is full of the joy and beauty you help to create for your loved ones. Wishing you a very Merry Christmas, happy Holidays, and the best new year!
