Festive 1920s Christmas Dinner Party

Festive 1920s Christmas Dinner Party

This dinner party idea is fun because it involves dinner, dessert, Bunco, and costumes! The 1920s theme elevated this Christmas party to something a little more festive and fun. Our friends are the best, they are willing to dress up for my parties and they are so much fun. Unfortunately, this time, Covid took out our family and the party is being postponed until 2023. The bummer is that I was really looking forward to the ease of having Christmas decor make the party space festive and pretty. Not all is lost though, while our costumes anxiously hang in the closets ready to be worn soon, I’m excited to show you some party space inspiration for our festive 1920s Christmas Dinner Party.

So, what’s with the 1920s theme? Well, I love Downton Abbey and thought a garden party would be fabulous, but after more consideration and realizing that the outfits I had in mind would just be too difficult to find, I changed the theme because the 1920s evening flapper dress would be much easier to get our hands on and the husbands could join us. What started as a smallish luncheon idea evolved into a couple’s dinner party for our local friends. The last time we did something like this was the murder mystery dinner – so we were definitely ready for another get-together. We love playing Bunco and thought it would be a fun game for mixed company. The meal plan will be shared when I actually share a post about the completed party, but let’s just say – carry out is my friend. For this short and sweet inspirational post, I will share my invitation design, and the party space. Festive 1920s Christmas Dinner Party – Invitations

Like I’ve said before, every party starts with an invitation. For these fun invitations, I ironed on the party details onto a handkerchief. The handkerchief was inside the invitation and could be pulled out of a small slit cut in the ‘jacket pocket’. The envelopes were my starting point and I sized everything from there. I love these petal envelopes and I found them on Etsy. The paper and fabric created enough thickness that I had to secure it with a ribbon and then my favorite wax seal and gold feather.

Festive 1920s Christmas Dinner Party – Tablescape

The party space was already pretty festive with our Christmas decor up, but I moved our main Christmas tree into the area and then styled the tablescapes. As much as possible, I used what I already had and then I bought some produce (pomegranates and oranges) to give it that Christmas Carol feel. The place cards are fun for me – I don’t really care where people sit, but I love making this little detail, and to give it a bit of a Downton Abbey feel, I put thought into a ‘proper’ seating arrangement. This tablescape isn’t too fussy, but there are some layers and little details to make it special.

Well, that’s it for the party that has yet to happen! I’m not sure how the new party space will come together, but it will be simple. Feeding people stresses me out so I’m excited to share how I will handle feeding a large group of people with minimal prep and stress. Thanks so much for checking out this post. Tablescapes are one of my favorite things to design and create and I hope this one inspired you.
